PSED

Personal Social and Emotional Development (PSED) supports children to have a positive sense of themselves, respect for others, social skills, emotional well-being and a positive disposition to learning. These are all crucial for school readiness and we at Kew Green Nursery have expert practitioners who work closely with parents to ensure that every child is ready for the next stage of their educational journey. Children’s early PSED has a huge impact on their later well-being and learning outcomes.

Personal, social and emotional development and the EYFS

PSED is one of the three prime areas within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Each prime area is divided into early learning goals, for PSED these are:

  • Self-Regulation – showing an understanding of their own feelings and those of others, and beginning to regulate their behaviour accordingly;
  • Managing Self – being confident to try new activities and show independence, resilience and perseverance in the face of challenge; managing their own basic hygiene and personal needs, including dressing, going to the toilet and understanding the importance of healthy food choices.
  • Building Relationships – playing cooperatively and taking turns with others; forming positive attachments to adults and friendships with peers; showing sensitivity to their own and to others’ needs.

Our dedicated team work closely with every family whilst ensuring that every child is working towards their PSED goals.
